Spotify - The Security Center

My Role
Product Designer
Timeline
August 2023 - October 2023

Task: To create a Security hub for the internal team at Spotify.

Working for Spotify I was the lead UX designer brought on to design and map a new Security hub for the internal team at Spotify. This role was to consolidate Spotifys internal security documentation into an online portal that not only educated and updated the Spotify workforce, but allowed them to quickly find information and log urgent security requests.

Client: Spotify

Considerations:

For this part of project the key points I needed to consider were:

1. What on the current site is working/no working?

2. What data do we currently have and what does it tell us?

3. What are the key jobs to be done (JTBD)?

4. What are the key user journeys?

5. Who the users we are building this for?

6. What adjustments can be done as quick wins vs nice-to-haves?

Competitive analysis:

I began by conducting a thorough competitive analysis of current industry standards with regards to security systems and knowledge bases I focused on identifying best practices, differentiating factors, and areas where I could innovate to provide a unique user experience.

IA:

IA was a very important part of this project, as Spotify already had a lot of data across various parts of the site, it was just very difficult for users to locate what they needed. So for this I went through 6 different sites used by Spotify, mapped it, then ran a card sorting workshop with the internal team to determine what could be grouped and what information needed to be surfaced to the user by most important.

The initial wireframes
The final designs

UX design:

Using insights from my research, card sorting and IA, I crafted the initial wireframes for the site. Working with a content designer, I constructed the L1, L2 & L3 pages and built out a fully fledged clickable prototype which we then tested on the internal Security team.

Internal testing:

Following design completion, I conducted light internal testing to identify areas for improvement with a view to building out the UI for the site.

Handover to development:

Once satisfied with the design, I worked with the UI designer to determine branding, illustrations, styling and a design system that could be used as a foundation for the site.

The final homescreen designs

Handover to dev:

Once the final UI designs, complete with detailed specifications were done, I built out the app onto Google sites, and created a handover document that allowed the internal team to self-serve any additional designs themselves.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this project showcased my ability to lead a product team from a UX perspective to build a knowledge base and simplify an otherwise complicated subject matter and user journey into something easy, useable and fun to digest.

Full in-depth walk-though of the project available on request. Includes Figma walk-through and prototypes.
